You Were Never Really Here is an upcoming film about a man named Joe (Joaquin Phoenix), a brutal enforcer with a penchant for hammers. At the start of the film Joe meets with State Senator Albert Votto (Alex Manette) to discuss a business proposition. Senator Votto wants Joe to rescue his missing daughter Nina (Ekaterina Samsonov). As Joe sets out to get Nina, things quickly take a turn for the worse as things turn out to be far more complicated than expected.

You Were Never Really Here looks like a brutal crime thriller featuring some sort of conspiracy plot; two things I tend to enjoy. Other reasons to be interested in this film are the fact that the critical reception has been positive so far and both its main actor Joaquin Phoenix and its director Lynne Ramsay were awarded trophies at the Cannes Film Festival for Best Actor and Best Screenplay respectively. This kind of a reception certainly suggests that You Were Never Really Here is something out of the ordinary and not just a crime thriller.

You Were Never Really Here is directed by Lynne Ramsay and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Alex Manette and Alessandro Nivola. At the time of writing the U.K. and U.S. release dates are unknown, they will appear here once announced.

Are you excited about seeing Joaquin Phoenix as a hammer wielding bad ass enforcer? Let us know in the comments!
