X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Trailer

I’m not a fan of directors like Brett Ratner. You may have a gift in appealing to a certain audience base but don’t bumble around using established lore. Comic stories, especially iconic Marvel and DC storylines, are what the old Greek myths were millenia ago. These are stories about people and their struggle with vices combined with a superpower or two. Zeus was a pervert that came onto women in the form of dead husbands, swans, and golden showers. Interestingly, he has both the powers of Mystique and Storm but I’m getting off topic again.
The point is, thank you, Bryan Singer, for erasing the Ratner continuity.
This action and fantasy adventure is directed by Bryan Singer. It stars Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender, among many other famous people. The first and most powerful mutant takes the spotlight as the big bad this time around, Apocalypse. Disillusioned with the state of the current world, Apocalypse is determined to take it upon himself to commit mass genocide. Helping him a fearsome foursome of horsemen including Magneto. Going against these plans is Raven, with the help Professor X and his young X-men. Follow their adventure as they race to stop this new threat and save mankind from utter destruction.
It’s a proper trailer. It gives you bait but not so much information that you understand the entirety of the plot. One of the obvious lures and selling points are the characters. If you noticed, it has Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, Quicksilver and the Summers’ brothers. If that wasn’t enough, it gave you another principle Game of Thrones actor as Jean Grey. Nostalgia is a hard habit to break.
It’s most likely going to be a great movie but that doesn’t excuse the usual cliches. When Charles’ eyes go black, he said “ I’ve never felt power like this before.” You may recognize this as an allusion to drug euphoria. Then we have that shot at the end where Prof. X is finally bald. It’s a vanity type shot. And remember the Schumacher Batman films where the heroes are running in front of the bat signal? It makes no sense narrative-wise but it promotes the…mystique of the character.
Now for a personal gripe. Professor X gets lifted by Magneto at 1:31. At this point in time, they know the likelihood is high that they’ll face Magneto several times. Provided that movie Magneto is NOT anything like the 616 version, why not build a wheelchair that the metal wizard cannot touch? For example, there are several metals that are weakly magnetic provided that the iron composition is low or non-existent. Titanium is one example or maybe vibranium. There is even whatever Thor’s hammer is made of, or the Silver Surfer. Okay, I got way too deep into this.
X-Men: Apocalypse is expected to release May 19th, 2016 in the U.K. and May 27th, 2016 in the U.S. For the list of worldwide release dates, click here.
