WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? Trailer

Documentarian Morgan Neville continues to poke at the entertainment world with Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, an in-depth look at the man behind one of America’s longest-running children’s programs.

The nostalgia net for this one will be pretty wide since Mister Rodgers sang his way into people’s memories for over three decades. The sweaters, the beautiful weather, and the invitation to be his neighbor was all so cozy, but the program wasn’t just fluff. It tackled emotions and fears in a way kids could understand, but it was always tucked within the loving embrace that was Mister Rodger’s Neighborhood.

If Fred Rodgers, the creator and star of the show, was really as lovely as his program, then we may have found one of those rare pop culture figures worth revering. That seems to be what the documentary will posit, much to the relief of his generations of fans.

Neville has a knack for finding these sorts of people, having taken home the Best Documentary Oscar for his love letter to backup singers, 20 Feet from Stardom. He also recently worked on The Music of Strangers with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, a man so cozy he appeared on Mister Rodger’s Neighborhood.

So no, this won’t be covering a hard-hitting topic, but let’s never say that the teaching of love and kindness isn’t important to document.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is directed by Morgan Neville. It will be released in the US on June 8th, 2018. Further release dates are not currently known.
