WINE COUNTRY Trailer

Oh, you think a 50th birthday can’t get crazy? Clearly you haven’t met the group in Wine Country.

In conception, the weekend seems pretty low-key. A tour through Napa Valley, complete with innumerable wine tastings, should give the group of longtime friends a chance to chill, catch up, and break out some tipsy ballads. 50 isn’t a year you slip into quietly, though, and when you’re surrounded by a close group, you feel safe letting the panic take hold. That’s exactly what happens in Wine Country, and with a cast full of Saturday Night Live veterans, that discomfort will be mined for all the comedy it’s worth.

You probably noticed Amy Poehler doing one of her signature anal retentive characters, but what might’ve slipped by you is that this marks her directorial debut. That’s right, finally a female-driven comedy that’s actually led by women behind the scenes, too! Poehler got her directorial feet wet with some TV work, including three episodes of Parks and Recreation, but a feature could mark a major pivot in her career.

Providing ample support is a group of seasoned comedians, with the friend group being made up entirely of former SNL cast or writers. The full batch is PoehlerMaya RudolphRachel DratchAna GasteyerPaula Pell, and Emily Spivey, among many notable supporting players. Sure bets one and all, which makes Wine Country a comedy to watch for.

Wine Country is directed by Amy Poehler and stars PoehlerMaya Rudolph, and Rachel Dratch. It will be released on Netflix worldwide on May 10th, 2019.
