Where’s My Roy Cohn? reconstructs the life of one of the most infamous men in American politics. Roy Cohn became known as the right-hand man of Senator Joe McCarthy whom he helped orchestrate a witch-hunt against alleged communists in America in the 1950s.
At one point during this time Cohn and McCarthy even started implying people in the U.S. government were being blackmailed by foreign governments due to their homosexuality. Once the McCarthy era ended, Cohn left politics and started focussing on his legal practice with current U.S. President Donald Trump and his father being amongst his clientele. He did have some involvement in Ronald Reagan getting elected President but other than that he stayed away from politics as his name had become tainted by that point.
Since Donald Trump has taken office, many of the figures in his circle such as Roger Stone (Get Me Roger Stone) and Steve Bannon (The Brink), have been studied by documentarians. Cohn is an interesting figure considering the consequences of his conduct and his hypocrisy when it came to his own homosexuality. It’ll be interesting to see whether this documentary can provide new insights into the psyche of one of the most controversial men of the 20th century.
Where’s My Roy Cohn? is directed by Matt Tyrnauer. It will be released in the U.S. on September 20th, 2019 with an as of yet unknown U.K. release date. For international release dates click here.
