Welcome To The New And Improved Film Inquiry!

It’s time for a public announcement!

We’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the new and improved Film Inquiry. We’re very proud to finally be able to share it with you – we’ve worked on it long and hard!

Film Inquiry was founded about two years ago – in that time we’ve gained a steady, loyal readership and have had over 50 writers (from film fans to filmmakers to film study PhD’s) join our ranks. We’ve published hundreds of valuable, in-depth articles, covering topics such as racism, sexism (and many more -isms) in film, and we’ve published articles on how to analyze movies, articles in which we do film analysis ourselves, as well as in-depth career profiles and filmmaking tips!

This is what we will continue to do, and to make this medium a successful, sustainable one, we’re going to ask our readers for a small financial contribution each month. Now, we know no one likes to pay for anything – what we ask isn’t much; in fact, it’s about a cup of coffee each month! The money made from subscriptions will help us to continue publishing high quality articles, to grow even further, to improve the website and the reading experience, and to do away with pesky advertisements. Finally, and maybe most importantly: we want to pay our writers for their priceless contributions. Writers are being valued less and less in this digital age, especially on entertainment sites, and it’s a shame.

What Can You Expect

We will continue to publish awesome content like we always have! We’re aiming to publish even more, though never so much that you can’t keep track anymore. Furthermore, we’ve just recorded our very first Film Inquiry podcast (name to be announced) today, which will likely see the light of day sometime next week! Not only that, we are aiming to create video content in the near future, as well.

The New Site And Some New Features

As you may have noticed, you’re looking at a brand spanking new website. This current look has been chosen to provide you with the greatest of reading experience. It’s very clean and distraction-free. The homepage doesn’t only show a limited amount of posts anymore – you can now scroll down the feed forever and ever. All pages have been given a serious rewrite and revamp, and look pretty nifty now if we say so ourselves. Have a look at our About page, or the Team page, for instance.

However, we may even be prouder of the Explore page! To quote from that page:

 Exploring a magazine as large as this one can be hard. We’ve published hundreds of articles over the years, and many are still relevant today, but are lost on the timeline. That’s why we’ve created this page, to make exploring Film Inquiry easier for you.

Just check it out – you won’t be disappointed!

Another new feature is the option to adjust the text size to your own desires. At the top of each post (like this one) you’ll see three A’s – click the smaller one and you’ll decrease the size of the text, if you click the largest A, you’ll increase it, and if you click the middle one, you reset it to default. Your browser will even remember your preference. Nifty, no?

We’re also working on some other new features, like drop-down captions so we can give you even more background information without impeding the main article. We’re also working on making articles available offline, and some “read later” options. Lastly, we’re working on a “Resources” section that will display the Resource articles we’ve published neatly and coherently so you can browse them more easily.
