Life is parodied in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, the latest from co-writer/director Eric Appel.

The film is about the strange life of Weird Al, the beloved musician who takes other people’s songs slaps new lyrics on them, and makes everyone laugh. As odd as his approach to music is everything behind the scenes went exactly as it always does: indulgence in drugs, alcohol and famous partners threatened to derail everything. Except none of that happened because Weird Al is a low-key guy. But shouldn’t his biopic be a parody of biopics?

The film’s first iteration was a trailer for Funny or Die back in 2010, which Appel directed. It was one in a long string of shorts and TV work for Appel, but this idea wouldn’t die. He returns to direct the real thing, an absolutely bonkers thing to do, but hey, at least he knows precisely what this thing should be.

The titular lead has been recast, with Daniel Radcliffe taking over and continuing a post-Potter career where he does whatever he wants. Co-starring with him is Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, and Quinta Brunson.

This movie will be wild and incredibly inaccurate, and hopefully, that will make it a great time.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is directed by Eric Appel and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, and Quinta Brunson. It will be released on The Roku Channel on November 4th, 2022.
