A Most Wanted Man is a spy thriller that tells the story of an anti-terrorism unit in Hamburg as they try to prevent a disaster from happening. An immigrant, half-Chechen, half-Russian, is the spindle of the story: when he arrives in Hamburg’s Islamic community he is desperate to recover his late father’s illicitly acquired fortune. No one knows who he is, though, and the spy unit speculates: is he a victim? A thief? Or, worse: a terrorist? Meanwhile, a young lawyer and British banker become involved as they try to defend those who cannot be defended. A Most Wanted Man presents a story of secrets and intrigue.
Dutch director Anton Corbijn‘s upcoming film A Most Wanted Man marks one of the final on-screen appearances of Philip Seymour Hoffman, who sadly passed away in February this year. Alongside Hoffman, the movie stars Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright and Willem Dafoe. The script, written by Andrew Bovell, was based on John le Carré‘s novel of the same title.

Corbijn is known for his artful filmmaking, and A Most Wanted Man looks like it’s not going to disappoint on that front. The trailer shows beautiful use of colors to set the mood, as well as carefully crafted shots. The cast is amazing, although it’s haunting to see Hoffman alive and well so long after his death (though his final appearances in the two final The Hunger Games movies are still upcoming).
All in all, I must say I’m very excited to see this film. Will you be seeing it?
A Most Wanted Man opens in cinemas on July 25 in the U.S. and on September 12 in the U.K. For more international release dates, check here.
