VOYAGE OF TIME Trailer

You may not have signed up for that astronomy 101 course, but you probably should get yourself to a movie theater for Terrence Malick’s universe epic Voyage of Time. It’s sure to be gorgeous, and whatever crazy dinosaur behavior Malick puts on the screen will (allegedly) be explained by Brad Pitt or Cate Blanchett, depending on which version you choose. That, or they’ll ramble existentially about the passage of time, because Malick doesn’t need your narrative clarity.

There will be two versions of this documentary, a 40-minute IMAX cut narrated by Pitt, and a feature length version with Blanchett. The trailer that’s been released is for the IMAX version, and even with its significantly shorter length, it still purports to cover the birth and death of the universe and everything in between.

Malick’s ambitions have always been large, but this scope is especially expansive for the writer/director. He’s been working on it for decades, even drawing a lawsuit from financiers claiming that he was improperly spending time on To The Wonder and Knight of Cups instead of completing the documentary. Now that he’s finally wrapped the project, we’ll get to see if all that time was spent wrangling the story or letting it spin out of control.
