VIOLENT NIGHT Trailer

Santa takes on some extra responsibilities in Violent Night, the latest from director Tommy Wirkola.

Everyone wants different things from their holiday movies, and this one is unabashedly serving the people who want raucous violence with their gifts. The film follows a wealthy family who are taken hostage over Christmas, and just when all seems hopeless, Santa drops by. He’s not as jolly as he once was, and when he sees people on his naughty list going after people on his nice list, he decides to hand out some pain with the coal.

It’s exactly the kind of silly premise people want from these movies, and it’s exactly the kind of genre fare Wirkola thrives in. He made that multiple Noomi Rapace movie What Happened to Monday and has some experience with chilly action from the Dead Snow series.

What’s really going to get people’s attention, though, is the man who dons the red suit, Stranger Things star David Harbour. This and Hopper aren’t dissimilar roles when you think about it, as he’s once again a grouchy man throwing himself into danger to protect some kid. This time he’s got powers, though, and he’ll use them to fend off the bad guys led by John Leguizamo.

This trailer makes it seem like they went all out for this one, so hopefully, it satisfies the Christmas action fans.

Violent Night is directed by Tommy Wirkola and stars David Harbour, John Leguizamo, and Beverly D’Angelo. It will be released in the US and the UK on December 2nd, 2022. For international release dates, click here.
