VALLEY OF THE GODS Trailer

Obscene wealth makes life really weird in Valley of the Gods, the latest from the writer/director Lech Majewski.

John encounters a strange world when he decides to write a biography of the wealthiest man in the world. The home of his subject, Wes, is filled with indulgences and idiosyncrasies, and he finds Wes engaged in a struggle he’s not exactly used to. Wes has bought the Valley of the Gods, but the Navajo people claim he can never really own it. Forces that cannot be bought will see to that, and the pair find themselves navigating this strange battleground.

To be honest, this movie just looks weird, which is its own intriguing selling point. Even the trailer makes it obvious that this isn’t like most movies, which is par for the course for Majewski. He made the art-inspired The Mill and the Cross and the dialogue-free Glass Lips, so really, you shouldn’t expect him to examine extreme wealth in an expected way.

Despite all that, he did manage to land some big names for the project. Josh Hartnett and John Malkovich star as the biographer and the subject, respectively, while Bérénice Marlohe and John Rhys-Davies also appear.

So, if you’re looking for something truly unique, this might be your thing.

Valley of the Gods is directed by Lech Majewski and stars Josh Hartnett, John Malkovich, and Bérénice Marlohe. It will be released in the US on digital platforms and on Blu-ray and DVD on August 11th, 2020. Further release dates are not currently known.
