UNDER THE SILVER LAKE Trailer

Get ready to follow a new mystery from David Robert Mitchell in Under the Silver Lake, which looks to be a nice stretch from his breakout, It Follows.

The beloved horror film from 2015 really put Mitchell on the map with its methodically creepy and exquisitely executed premise, and while some might be disappointed that he’s dropped horror in favor of some detective work, it’s clear from this trailer that he hasn’t lost his sense of style. The camera is still in off-kilter places to match the off-kilter story, which follows a regular man getting sucked into an all-encompassing mystery.

Naturally, after the success of It Follows comes a bigger budget and bigger stars, with Andrew Garfield as the film’s main man and Riley Keough as his suddenly missing love interest. The rest of the rabbit hole is filled out with familiar faces, which could play nicely against the underlying idea of finding hidden clues in ordinary things.

The question seems to be whether the whole situation is a paranoid delusion or a real mystery to unravel, but either way, the answer seems to be at the bottom of the titular lake. That’s a little odd given the climax of It Follows, but maybe Mitchell just really likes water. Or at least keeping his actors good and wet.

Under the Silver Lake is directed by David Robert Mitchell and stars Andrew GarfieldRiley Keough, and Topher Grace. It will be released in the U.S. on June 22nd, 2018. Further release dates are not currently known.
