Unbroken tells the story of Olympic athlete and World War II hero Louis Zamperini. After the former track star survives a crash in the Pacific Ocean and spends almost two months drifting about on sea, he is taken prisoner by the Japanese forces; they force him to live in their prisoner of war camps for more than two and a half years. The movie is based on the non-fiction book by Lauren Hillenbrand, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.
Unbroken marks the directorial debut for Angelina Jolie, the script was written by the Coen Brothers, Richard LaGravenese and William Nicholson, and it stars Jack O’Connell (as Zamperini), Garrett Hedlund, and Domhnall Gleeson.

Since the trailer’s release, the web has been abuzz with anticipation for Jolie‘s debut as director. I’m very curious to see the result, too – the trailer itself is quite unique, what with the images of the real Zamperini. Zamperini, sadly, passed away two weeks ago, on July 2.
Unbroken is scheduled for release in the U.S. on December 25, in the U.K. on December 26. For more international release dates, check here.
