What piques my interest for this upcoming film is the writer and director, Kevin Smith. I’ve seen Clerks II and Mallrats, as well as watching some episodes of Comic Book Men and an interview or two. I have to say, I like the guy. He has talent as a writer, director, actor, etc. His movies make me laugh and his personality is charismatic. Now he’s created a monster movie – bring it on!
The first thing I thought when I heard the premise was that it would be a lot like The Human Centipede; that I’d be squirming in my seat but not really get much out of it aside from a churning stomach. But Smith did something different with this film – he added humor to the situation.
While I was never a huge fan of Justin Long, especially because I typecast him in my head for his lousy, unlikable characters in Jeepers Creepers and in the comedy, New Girl, as Jess’s geeky teacher-friend, I think he may pull this role off based on the trailer. Also, returning from another Kevin Smith film, Red State, Michael Parks plays the villain once again as a maniac obsessed with a walrus (of all things to be obsessed with????).
I’m excited to see what emotions this movie will draw: fear, repulsion, downright laughter, or a combination of all three. Tusk hopefully will be one to get your blood pumping and your funny bone tickled!
Tusk will be released in the U.S. on September 19, 2014 – international release dates are unknown as of yet.
Does this movie seem like a gruesome horror, or will it simply have you giggling in your seat? Let me know in the comments 🙂
