TULLY Trailer

The Young Adult gang is back together, but there’s no room for Charlize Theron to have delusions of youth with three kids running around.

Her character in Tully is a mother stretched to her breaking point by the round-the-clock responsibilities of raising kids, at least until relief comes in the form of a night nanny played by Mackenzie Davis. There’s a sense, though, that this new person will need to bring more than just a helping hand, especially since Theron seems to be stumbling around in a perpetual daze before she arrives.

The film will be another examination of everyday life from writer Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman, who in addition to Young Adult are responsible for the coming-of-age hit Juno. Both of these previous films are deceptively large in scale, and if that holds true for Tully, then we could be looking at a deep dive into modern motherhood.

At the very least, it should be the rare opportunity for Theron to strip away fancy clothes and genre trappings to show her bare skill, something the versatile actress has proven she can do just as well as her recent kickass action roles. It should also be a nice measuring point for Davis, who has been making a name for herself in television and supporting roles over the last several years.

Tully promises to be a charming character piece with all the elements needed for it to be one of the last intimate films before the blockbuster season takes over.

Tully is directed by Jason Reitman and stars Charlize TheronMackenzie Davis, and Mark Duplass. It will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on April 20th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
