A woman must decide what she wants in Three Thousand Years of Longing, the latest from co-writer/director George Miller.

Everyone has to decide this at some point, but Alithea has a unique opportunity to make her wildest dreams come true. While on a trip to Istanbul she buys a trinket at a bazaar, and from it comes a djinn offering three wishes. As a scholar in the area, she knows all about the dangers of these wishes, and as they both try to wiggle out of their situations things spin-off in bizarre directions.

The story will give Miller lots of opportunities to be his zany self, which you see a lot of in this trailer. We all know how visually creative he can be from his Mad Max series, and this looks like another extravaganza from the eclectic director.

The other big reason to be excited for this one is the showdown between two acting titans: Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. They play the scholar and the djinn, respectively, and they’ll need to embody the beating heart within all these strange goings-on. Both are perfectly capable of that along with blending into whatever wild fantasies Miller conjures up, so expect this movie to be a treat on multiple fronts.

Three Thousand Years of Longing is directed by George Miller and stars Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. It will be released in the US on August 31st. For international release dates, click here.
