THE TRUTH Trailer

The Truth is a film by writer/director Hirokazu Kore-eda that stars Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche. Do you even need the trailer? That sells it, right?

If you must know more, Deneuve and Binoche play a friendly but not exactly close mother and daughter, and in a meta turn, Deneuve’s Fabienne is a legendary actress with a memoir about to be released. Binoche’s Lumir brings her family to celebrate, but when she finds the book doesn’t fit with her own recollections the visit turns into a contentious fight over past decisions.

This stumble down memory lane fits right in with Kore-eda’s most beloved films, as many revolve around the inner workings of blood or chosen families. ShopliftersNobody Knows, and Still Walking gave him an impeccable reputation, and a French/English language drama with these actors is about the only thing that could increase his stature at this point.

Playing third wheel as Lumir’s husband is Ethan Hawke, and having him as third bill exemplifies how high caliber everyone working on this film is. He, Deneuve, and Binoche should tear into the complexities Kore-eda always brings to his on-screen families, making The Truth a film that shouldn’t be missed.

The Truth is directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and stars Catherine DeneuveJuliette Binoche, and Ethan Hawke. It will be released in the US and the UK on March 20th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
