THE TOMORROW WAR Trailer

A man must go back to war by going forward in time in The Tomorrow War, the latest from director Chris McKay.

A one-line summary makes this movie sound more complicated than it is, what with the time travel and all. The main thing to understand is that a former soldier has been drafted again and must confront his leftover trauma. This time his enemy happens to be aliens, and the ones organizing the fight are time travelers from the future. The aliens haven’t shown up on Earth yet but they’re an inevitability, one that will kill the man’s daughter if he doesn’t take these violent steps now.

A live-action war movie like this is about the last thing you’d expect McKay to do as his previous work was primarily in animated comedies. Known most for the two Lego Batman movies, this is a massive step in a different direction for the director, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the change.

At least he has an old hat at big action in front of the camera in Chris Pratt, who stars as the time-traveling soldier. Compared to the planet-hopping hero with daddy issues he plays in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, this should be a piece of cake. Co-starring with him is Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, and Edwin Hodge.

This promises big action with a science fiction twist, which sounds just right for summer fun.

The Tomorrow War is directed by Chris McKay and stars Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, and J.K. Simmons. It will be released worldwide through Prime Video on July 2nd, 2021.
