THE SNOWMAN Trailer

The latest film to make you guess the killer is The Snowman, but unless this movie is way sillier than its trailer implies, I doubt the carnage will be caused by a literal snowman.
No, The Snowman is just a moniker the killer has given himself, leaving themed clues (and bodies) for detectives to find. The innocence of a child’s plaything laced with hacked up bodies is a solid mixture for horror, and the bits we get from the trailer are downright chilling.
Helming this foray into the snow is Tomas Alfredson, who proved that he that he could scare the bejesus out of you with Let the Right One In and sustain a mystery with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. To say that The Snowman is in his wheelhouse seems like an understatement, so it’s understandable that expectations for this film are high.
Upping the hype is the presence of Michael Fassbender, who will lead a younger detective played by Rebecca Ferguson through the case. Signing on for this film is a bit of an odd choice for Fassbender, who has done plenty of commercial roles but had already taken on several potential series. X-Men is still ongoing, and while Assassins Creed and Alien: Covenant seem to have floundered, both could have spawned several more films. The Snowman is based on an extensive book series, and if this adaptation is successful, one would assume more films would be made.
If Fassbender had four franchises going at once, there would’ve been little time for the small movies that built his reputation. He’s shown sparks of his trademark intensity in these big-budget escapades, but not enough to satisfy his hardcore fans. Is he going entirely commercial or is he trying to find a balance, and does the chilly tension of The Snowman offer up a middle ground?
The Snowman is directed by Tomas Alfredson and stars Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, and Val Kilmer. It will be released in the U.K. on October 13th, 2017 and in the U.S. on October 20th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
