THE SHACK Trailer

The Shack is an upcoming film adaptation of the highly successful 2007 Christian novel of the same name by William P. Young. While it was a self-published novel written for his children, it became a huge bestseller selling more than a million copies within the first year of release.

The Shack tells the story of a man named Mack Phillips (played by Sam Worthington) dealing with the death of one of his children at the hands of a serial killer. Four years after the death of his daughter, he receives a letter from an unknown person who invites him back to the shack in which the crime took place.

As mysterious as this all sounds, the rest of the story is where things might get difficult to buy into for people who are not religious. I don’t really think this is a spoiler at this point but let’s say that when he gets to the shack he meets the new inhabitants who change his life. These characters can pull you into the story or completely alienate you depending on what your personal beliefs are. Usually religious themed films tend to be preachy films without much crossover appeal even to other Christians, I’m not sure this is the film to change that but at least this one has a pretty good cast compared to many other films in the genre.

The Shack is directed by Stuart Hazeldine and stars Sam Worthington, Alice Braga, Graham Greene, Tim McGraw, Radha Mitchell and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer. It will be released in the U.S. on March 3rd, 2017. For international release dates click here.
