THE RHYTHM SECTION Trailer

A woman puts it all on the line in The Rhythm Section, the latest from director Reed Morano.

She didn’t want to give up everything; in fact, she never would’ve thought of it until her family was torn away from her in a mysterious plane crash that may or may not have been intentional. Now she’s scouring the less reputable corners of the world for answers, driven by a singular and probably unhealthy need to exact revenge in any way she can.

The pain at the center of this story should be easy for Morano to handle, who’s previous films Meadowland and I Think We’re Alone Now wallow in plenty of gloom. The thriller aspect is what will push her, forcing her quicken her usual pace and add big action sequences to her repertoire. Directing a few episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale should’ve been a great warm-up for this and hopefully gave her an opportunity to try out some tricks.

It would be hard to get a better lead actress right now than Blake Lively, who’s been coming into her own ever since 2015’s The Age of Adaline. It still feels like there’s a lot of facets to her that have yet to be utilized, though, and The Rhythm Section should push her nicely as well. Co-starring with her is Sterling K. Brown and Jude Law.

This looks like a gritty, character-driven thriller, and hopefully the team up of Morano and Lively can make it both impactful and exciting.

The Rhythm Section is directed by Reed Morano and stars Blake Lively, Sterling K. Brown, and Jude Law. It will be released in the US and the UK on January 31st, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
