It’s hard to overstate the impact of 9/11. After the attacks that left almost 3000 people dead, the American government was hellbent on finding those responsible. While most of the people involved in the attacks died while carrying out their mission, some were still out there. To find those people, many believed the end justified the means. A few years after the attacks with two wars underway, people started to wonder whether that was true.

The Report is a film about the investigation that was launched after it was revealed the CIA destroyed close to 100 tapes of CIA interrogation sessions involving people who were suspected to have been involved in the 9/11 attacks. After the sabotage was revealed, Senator Dianne Feinstein (Annette Bening) told her staffer Daniel J. Jones (Adam Driver) to investigate what happened to the people who were subjected to gruelling interrogations which included: prisoners being kept awake for over a week, prisoners being subjected to mock executions and prisoners being force-fed anally.

One of the things that stood out about the report was the fact that most of the people that were tortured did not give up any useful information which is not surprising as 26 of the 119 detainees were innocent. Some of these people had actually worked for the American government but they were captured and tortured anyway. Those that did give up information often gave up false information about fellow prisoners. The Report, previously titled The Torture Report, will hopefully remind people of the abuse of power that took place.

The Report is directed by Scott Z. Burns and stars Adam Driver, Annette Bening, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Morrison, Tim Blake Nelson, Ted Levine, Michael C. Hall and Maura Tierney. It will be released in the U.K. and the U.S. on November 15th, 2019. For international release dates click here.
