THE NIGHT HOUSE Trailer

Grief spins into something more sinister in The Night House, the latest from director David Bruckner.

Beth was not expecting her husband to die, and the reason he went out on a boat with a gun is as mysterious to her as any of it. Perhaps ill-advisedly, she tries to process all this alone in their lake house, and as she attempts to sort out the mystery and her feelings, she starts experiencing things that are definitely not symptoms of grief. Footsteps, closing doors, all the accoutrements of a haunted house begin sneaking up on her, and the clues her husband left behind don’t rule out supernatural elements.

This looks like pretty classic psychological horror, something that Bruckner has some experience with. His previous feature, The Ritual, also involves isolation, grief, and increasingly strange occurrences, and that turned out to be a Netflix gem.

This one will be a bit bigger, though, and with that comes a bigger star. In seemingly the only large role, Rebecca Hall plays the widowed wife either being attacked or making it all up in her head. She’s a fine person to rest a film on, and with Bruckner steering the whole thing, it seems unlikely that the film will become as lost as its protagonist.

The Night House is directed by David Bruckner and stars Rebecca Hall, Sarah Goldberg, and Evan Jonigkeit. It will be released in the US on July 16th, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
