THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US Trailer

Kate Winslet and Idris Elba must survive a perilous journey to Baltimore in The Mountain Between Us, but for many people this trailer brings up a much more pressing concern: will the dog make it?

All joking aside, audiences will be pulling for the human-animal trio to survive the plane crash and subsequent journey across the wilderness to safety, and the pairing of Winslet and Elba is almost too much to ask for. Directing the project is Hany Abu-Assad, a two-time Academy Award nominee for Paradise Now and Omar.

That’s a lot of quality players for a survival flick, which makes me wonder if The Mountain Between Us has something extra up its sleeve. The film is based on a popular book of the same name by Charles Martin, so there are people out there who know precisely how this scenario will play out.

Whether it stays a straightforward survival tale or veers into something deeper, the trailer makes it look like a strikingly shot wilderness adventure. In yet more evidence of the care taken with this movie, it was filmed in Canada on the mountainous border between Alberta and British Columbia. Yeah, that scenery is real, but will all the effort to capture this tale be worth it?

The Mountain Between Us is directed by Hany Abu-Assad and stars Idris Elba and Kate Winslet. It will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on October 20th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
