THE LITTLE HOURS Trailer

Writer and director Jeff Baena brings another unusual comedy film to the table with The Little Hours, again expanding his impressive list of professional connections. The guy who started out working for Robert Zemeckis and eventually co-wrote I Heart Huckabees with David O. Russell has put out three films in quick succession, and while none have made a huge splash, the strong cast for each project makes it seem like he’s doing something very right.

The trailer for The Little Hours displays its cast with great pride, and if there’s a secondary hook behind its raunchy nun premise, it’s certainly that sprawling list. Whether you’re excited for long-haired Nick Offerman or the uptight comedy of Alison Brie, chances are you’ll find someone here who gets you laughing.

That so many of them are returning for a second go with Baena (or third in the case of Aubrey Plaza) should help a film that feels a bit light in premise. Yeah, raunchy nuns makes for a great trailer, but can the joke sustain an entire feature? Maybe, but having a group that’s comfortable and confident in each other does make one more optimistic about its chances.

Besides, this is a loose take on “The Decameron” that’s already been condemned by the Catholic League, so at least they got that part right.

The Little Hours is directed by Jeff Baena and stars Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Kate Micucci, and Aubrey Plaza. It will be released in the U.S. on June 30th, 2017. Further release dates are not currently known.
