THE LAST WORD Trailer

Shirley MacLaine gets a starring vehicle in The Last Word, a feel-good comedy that gives her a couple sidekicks and a lot of acerbic jabs to work with.

The film looks to be following a common formula, with MacLaine’s character doing a late in life rehab to pad her obituary. It’s palatable wackiness, relying more on love for MacLaine than any groundbreaking story. There will be laughs, hijinks, and gentle life lessons, and if it kicks off an outpouring of love for the comedy legend, then it will have served a worthwhile purpose.

The film pairs her with Amanda Seyfried and newcomer AnnJewel Lee Dixon. Seyfried, who brings lots of experience with supporting comedy roles, is the one tasked with writing the obituary, while Lee is there to throw in quips and bring the cute factor. Make no mistake that MacLaine will be leading the bunch, and as her co-stars acquiesce the spotlight and go along for the ride, so should the audience.

The Last Word is directed by Mark Pellington and stars Shirley MacLaine, Amanda Seyfried, and AnnJewel Lee Dixon. It will be released in the U.S. on March 3rd, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
