THE JESUS ROLLS Trailer

A beloved character returns to the big screen in The Jesus Rolls, the latest directorial effort from John Turturro.

Of course, Turturro also stars as his Big Lebowski character, Jesus Quintana, who we catch up with as he’s getting out of prison. He’s quickly up to no good, but he has a gang of friends around him and a bowling ball is never far, so we know the high jinks will be fun to watch.

There is a big question hanging over this film, of course. How do you make a spin-off of a Coen brothers’ movie without the Coens? Our faith must rest with Turturro, who presumably knows and loves this character, otherwise why return after all these years? He wrote the script as well as directing and starring, so this really is his film to make or break.

He at least has some backup in front of the camera, with Bobby Cannavale, Pete Davidson, Audrey Tautou, and Susan Sarandon all co-starring. It’s never surprising when a longtime actor gets some great co-stars for their directorial efforts, but even in this circumstance, that’s a stacked cast. Hopefully they can make this into something that doesn’t get lost in its predecessor’s shadow.

The Jesus Rolls is directed by John Turturro and stars Turturro, Bobby Cannavale, and Audrey Tautou. It will be released in the US on February 28th, 2020 and in the UK on March 20th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
