THE HUNT Trailer

The most dangerous game is on in The Hunt, the latest from director Craig Zobel.

If you did your assigned reading in school, then this trailer probably made you remember Richard Connell’s famous short story. The extremely wealthy callously hunt people for sport? Sound at all familiar? The film does seem to be taking a more humorous tact than Connell did along with inserting some class warfare and upping the amount of people trying to avoid slaughter. Luckily some of the prey are quick on their feet, and the tables get turned as they plot their escape.

As eye-catching as hunting humans may be, the premise is sort of tame compared to what Zobel has done in the past. Compliance, his based on a true story shocker turned a lot of heads, but his more quiet followup, the underrated Z for Zachariah, failed to build on the attention. That means The Hunt is a bit of a comeback for Zobel, and he seems to be keeping things accessible with this outing.

With so many people hunting and being hunted, the film boasts a large cast of recognizable faces. Hilary Swank seems to be playing the evil brains of the operation while Betty Gilpin is a smarter than they intended target. It’s a little unclear from the trailer whether those two are truly opposing leaders, but it would be pretty cool to invert Connell’s all-male game into a female-driven battle. Co-staring with them is Ike Barinholtz, Emma Roberts, and Justin Hartley, to name a few.

The Hunt is directed by Craig Zobel and stars Betty Gilpin, Hilary Swank, and Emma Roberts. It will be released in the US and the UK on September 27th, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
