THE HIGH NOTE Trailer

A beleaguered assistant seizes her opportunity in The High Note, the latest from director Nisha Ganatra.

Maggie has been working for the legendary singer Grace Davis for years, running errands, getting coffee, and doing the general menial work that comes with assistant jobs. She puts up with it because it gets her close to some of the best in the business, and her goal is to wiggle into the creative side when the opportunity arises. She gets her wish when Davis decides to record a new album against the wishes of her management team, who would rather she spend her middle age in the cash cow that is a Vegas residency.

A tale of women struggling through a brutal industry should be familiar territory for Ganatra, who’s made her own way for decades. She made several films years ago but has been working mostly in TV for the past 15 years. Last year’s Late Night marked her return to the big screen, and she’s securing her place with this quick follow up.

Like with Late Night, she’s working with a hell of a leading duo. Dakota Johnson plays the frustrated assistant to Tracee Ellis Ross’ superstar, and with a strong supporting cast that includes Ice Cube, Bill Pullman, and Kelvin Harrison Jr., this has plenty to entice people to check it out on VOD.

The High Note is directed by Nisha Ganatra and stars Dakota Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Ice Cube. It will be released in the US and UK on VOD May 29th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
