THE GOLDFINCH Trailer

The long anticipated adaptation to Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer award-winning novel The Goldfinch dropped the first trailer.

Brooklyn director John Crowley takes on the monolith coming-of-age story with critically acclaimed director of photography Roger Deakins, putting it at the forefront of this year’s Oscar contenders. Crowley’s previous effort, Brooklyn, flung actress Saoirse Ronan to the peak of stardom when the film was nominated for three Oscars and praised for its arthouse style – which should pique the interest of cinephiles in The Goldfinch.

The film stars Ansel Elgort as Theo Decker, alongside a star-studded cast with the likes of Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson and Dunkirk star Aneurin Barnard.

The 784-page novel became a literary sensation because of its vivid, Dickensian examination of a young man’s life in the wake of tragedy and the painting that haunts him for the rest of his life. The hype around the novel’s adaptation has been stirring for quite some time, yet many fans are skeptical of how the novel’s dense and dreamy writing will translate onto the silver screen.

Controversy initially struck when Page Six reported that Tartt allegedly fired her agent after she was denied credits as a producer on the film.

As we wait for the film’s premiere, you can read up on Tartt’s literary triumph.
