THE CRAFT: LEGACY Trailer

The coven reforms in The Craft: Legacy, the latest from writer/director Zoe Lister-Jones.

You all remember The Craft, right? That ’90s movie with goth high school witches who took things way too far? Well, we’re finally getting a sequel, although given how similar this feels to the original, it seems to be some mix of sequel, reboot, and remake. Seriously, we’re starting with a new girl in school (same as original, check) who is taken in by an existing trio of friends (check) who need a fourth to make their coven more powerful (check) so they can get back at the people who are cruel to them and make each other levitate (check and check). There is a direct reference to the first movie through that ominous picture of Nancy, so this isn’t the exact same story, but it looks pretty darn close.

Whatever it is, it’s a definite change from Lister-Jones’s previous film, the music-infused dramedy Band Aid. Sticking close to the original script could be both a help and hindrance, as there’s something undeniably lovable about how weird the original was but there’s also lots of room for improvement.

Our new coven is made up of little known actresses, with Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, and Zoey Luna making up the preexisting clique while Cailee Spaeny plays their new friend. This sort of movie is pretty dependent on its main group clicking, so hopefully, they can capture some of the same magic as the original cast.

The Craft: Legacy is directed by Zoe Lister-Jones and stars Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, and Zoey Luna. It will be released on video on demand in the US and in theaters internationally on October 28th, 2020. Keep up to date with its release schedule here.
