THE BOOK OF HENRY Trailer

Colin Trevorrow scales back for The Book of Henry, taking on the story of a family investigating a suspicious neighbor under the directive of their hyper-intelligent son.

The plot seems more in line with Trevorrow’s feature debut Safety Not Guaranteed than his blockbuster Jurassic World, mixing elements from a few different genres into a difficult to categorize film. Juggling everything, not to mention avoiding the annoyingly precocious kid trap, is a tall order, but not as tall as dinosaur fights. Trevorrow has handled quite a few difficult challenges in his short career, so blending everything The Book of Henry offers up should be within his capabilities.

The screenplay comes from novelist and TV writer Gregg Hurwitz, who wrote the first draft back in the ‘90s and has stayed with the project since. The film sports a solid cast, with Naomi Watts, Jaeden Lieberher, and Jacob Tremblay as the main family, as well as making the live-action debut of Maddie Ziegler, the former Dance Moms star and Sia’s go-to video performer (remember that weird Elastic Heart video with Shia LaBeouf? That’s her.)

For a project full of capable players, The Book of Henry has been relatively quiet in the lead-up to its release. It may turn out to be a surprising summer gem, much like Safety was in 2012.

The Book of Henry is directed by Colin Trevorrow and stars Naomi Watts, Jaeden Lieberher, and Lee Pace. It will be released in the U.S. on June 16th, 2017 and in the U.K. on June 23rd, 2017. Further release dates are not currently known.
