THE ACCOUNTANT Trailer

The Accountant Trailer

Well, you can’t say that Ben Affleck isn’t trying to capitalize on his success. Since winning his second Oscar for Argo, he’s famously taken over the role of Batman, including writing and directing the upcoming caped crusader’s first solo film in the DC Extended Universe. In addition to that commitment, he’s also peppered in several acting appearances in stand-alone thrillers. How he finds time for all of this is a mystery to me, but he somehow squeezed another promising thriller into that schedule, the upcoming The Accountant.

Affleck plays a gifted accountant that keeps the books straight for various illegal operations while maintaining a large arsenal of weapons. When his character takes on a new client and the government starts investigating his business, it looks like those guns come in handy, making Affleck’s character one of the more terrifying accountants you’re likely to come across. Unless they’re telling you that your finances are in shambles. Then they’re all petrifying.

The script by Bill Dubuque (The Judge) certainly attracted some impressive players, as Anna Kendrick, Jon Bernthal, and J.K. Simmons appear alongside Affleck. Directing the project is Gavin O’Connor, who misfired when he tried to save the troubled Jane Got a Gun but can still hang his hat on the successes of Warrior and Miracle. Warner Bros. pushed the film’s release back without siting any specific reasons, but its new late-year release usually indicates a vote of confidence in a project. Yeah, we’ll have to wait a little longer to see it, but it’s looking like The Accountant will be worth the delay.

The Accountant is directed by Gavin O’Connor and stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, and Jon Bernthal. It will be released in the U.S. on October 14th, 2016 and in the U.K. on November 4th, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
