TERMINATOR: DARK FATE Trailer

Sarah Connor returns to save the future in Terminator: Dark Fate, the continuation of the warped Terminator timeline.

Honestly, there’s been so much time traveling in the series that this casual watcher long ago gave up trying to follow what is and isn’t relevant. Give me a target, a terminator, and group of people/reprogrammed machinery trying to protect said target (which this film does) and I’m happy. More diligent fans will find it important that this is a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, cutting out most of the movies fans found lacking and getting us back to Linda Hamilton kicking butt.

Outside of that, this trailer is pretty vague about the plot. It seems to be envisioned simply as a return to form, even paying homage to a Terminator 2 set piece. If that’s the case, then the marching orders were likely pretty clear for director Tim Miller, but hopefully he had the leeway to inject some distinctive fun like he did with his previous film, Deadpool.

Sticking to that throwback appeal, the return of Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger is the biggest cast news, even if the main action will likely flow through series newcomers Mackenzie Davis (a human-machine hybrid), Natalia Reyes (our new target), and Gabriel Luna (our new terminator).

Harkening back to the glory days of the Terminator series will certainly get fans excited, but it also sets the bar very high for Dark Fate. Hopefully its reach doesn’t exceed its grasp.

Terminator: Dark Fate is directed by Tim Miller and stars Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Mackenzie Davis. It will be released in the UK on October 23rd, 2019 and in the US on November 1st, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
