Da 5 Bloods is the first great Black Vietnam film, not just the first. It’s a movie whose modern envelope minces empathy and excitement within the unsung sacrifice of the African American soldier.
While it’s plot is relatively flimsy, American Woman thrives on the basis of its powerful performances, particularly those from Hong Chau and Sarah Gadon.
The Post will likely be overlooked at this year’s Oscars, but with its historical depiction of the fight for the press and democracy, as well as its similarities to present day, it is still worth watching.
