Mortal Engines clearly understands its source material, which makes for a fantastic first act, but has trouble successfully adapting it, resulting in the rest of the film being lackluster.
In Mortal Engines, a young woman joins forces with an outlaw and an outcast to lead a rebellion against a giant predator city on wheels.
Despite An Ordinary Man’s ultra slow pace, it contains a superb score, Silberings’s minimalistic story and grand direction, and Kingsley and Hilmar’s respective tour-de-forces, sharpening in tuning slowly towards a gripping climax.
