STRAWBERRY MANSION Trailer

Journey into the land of dreams in Strawberry Mansion, the latest from the writer/director duo Kentucker Audley and Albert Birney.

In the future, our dreams become part of our tracked and codified life, with taxes being levied and advertisements filling the space. That also means poor saps like James Preble have to be a dream auditor, a person who travels around and ensures the system is working correctly. When he shows up at an isolated woman’s farmhouse, he’s just expecting another regular day at the office, not the life-changing experience her dreams take him on.

Look, I don’t really know what’s going on here, because the trailer focuses more on the surreal whimsy the film seems to exist in. That tracks with Audley and Birney’s previous film, Sylvio, where a gorilla becomes a local celebrity. What surprised about that film was the simple and true heart underneath all the curiosities, which seems to be approach the duo is taking again with Strawberry Mansion.

Audley himself stars as the dream auditor while Birney fills in as a couple of the creatures in the movie (he’s credited on IMDB as playing the Frog Waiter / Blue Demon). Look, you can tell from the trailer that this is an ambitious film pulled off without a lot of money, but don’t mistake that for the filmmakers cutting costs by casting themselves. They know their material, and per the strong reviews this got after premiering at 2021’s Sundance Film Festival, they’ve got the wide-ranging filmmaking skills to pull it off. So write it, direct it, and star in it yourselves. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.

Strawberry Mansion is directed by Kentucker Audley and Albert Birney, who also star alongside Penny Fuller and Grace Glowicki. It will be released in the US on February 18th, 2022. Further release dates are not currently known.
