SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Trailer

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the latest adaptation of the story of Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man (Tom Holland). This version has the distinction of being the first adaptation to include some of the Marvel characters Spider-Man interacts with in the comics. For years this was impossible because Marvel wouldn’t allow Sony to use its characters in the Spider-Man movies, which is why characters like Tony Stark were always off-limits.

Thankfully a deal was struck, which saw Sony allowing Marvel to use Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War and in return, Marvel has allowed characters such as Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It has even been suggested that Captain America (Chris Evans) himself will appear in the movie, although this trailer does not support that theory.

Homecoming marks the second time in 15 years the Spider-Man franchise has been rebooted. Spider-Man was previously portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in a total of five movies. This time around, Spidey will be portrayed by Tom Holland with Marisa Tomei playing Aunt May. The movie also marks the return of Michael Keaton to the familiar territory of superhero films; having previously played Batman in Batman and Batman Returns, he now plays the villainous Adrian Toomes, also known as Vulture.

The plot remains a bit of a mystery as the trailer doesn’t show much apart from the fact that Spider-Man is being mentored by Tony Stark as he starts to take on villains. Regardless, there is plenty to get excited about, especially the casting of Tom Holland, which looks to be a good move, as he’s much closer to the age of the original character than either of the previous two actors.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei and Zendaya. It will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on July 7th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
