ESCAPE PLAN Trailer

Escape Plan (2013) is about a man, Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone), whose super power is being able to escape from any prison “designed by man”. He is put in a super prison (with acrylic glass cells) and the challenge is: escape. Swann Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) joins his team, and the rest is lots of gun fire, fighting and one liners. Oh, and 50 Cent.

This looks like it’s going to be a fun and enjoyable movie, with lots of 90s style action! I personally love prison movies because they can Escape Plan Posterbe very critical of the prison system – privatization is a topic that has been much discussed for the past twenty or thirty years. I couldn’t tell from the trailer whether this is a prison owned by a corporation, but my guess would be yes… In movies, it’s usually not the government building state of the art prisons.

What’s also really interesting is the prison guard with the black mask – in prisons, dehumanization has always been present. An example is the use of caps and reflecting sunglasses in the Stanford Prison Experiment of the 70s (it’s something they, interestingly, took away from the Das Experiment (2001) and The Experiment (2010) movies, both based on the Stanford Prison Experiment) to hide the guard’s identit. This creepy black mask in Escape Plan takes the dehumanization even to a higher level.

So yeah, I’m going to watch this one for sure! Are you?
