Writer/director Omar S. Kamara‘s personal and powerful film, African Giants, is premiering at the 30th Slamdance Film Festival in Park City. The film, which is inspired by his life and real conversations he’s had, is a familial journey, and a poignant look at a relationship between two brothers. Filled with terrific dialogue, African Giants is one to look out for.
As we spend the weekend with these two brothers things come to light and the big decisions in life – and the expectations of family – weigh heavily. The acting from our two leads, Dillon Daniel Mutyaba and Omete Anassi is fantastic, further drawing us into this intimate conversation as it unfolds. Kamara has an assured hand behind the camera and a talent for authenticity with his script. There’s excellent production design and cinematography, utilizing limited space to make the dialogue and emotions stand out.
African Giants is a beautiful film, a rich look at brotherhood with an engaging plot and confident directorial prowess.
Film Inquiry sat down with Omar S. Kamara ahead of the premiere to talk about how the project started, the inspirations in daily life, advice for those looking to make their film, and much more!
