THE SISTERS BROTHERS Trailer

When you think of John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix playing brothers you wouldn’t imagine their characters are hitmen. Reilly and Phoenix play the Sisters Brothers, a gruesome twosome, feared across the west. Their latest target is Hermann Kermit Warm (Riz Ahmed), a chemist who has figured out a way to make gold glow in the water by using chemicals. Once their associate John Morris (Jake Gyllenhaal) tells the brothers where they can find Hermann, the brothers set out to kill him. During their journey, personal squabbles and betrayal take their toll.

Although the western has many different sub genres, western comedies have been few and far between, especially in recent years. The Sisters Brothers looks like a welcome reminder of the days when Bud Spencer and Terence Hill were putting out classics of the genre such as They Call Me Trinity. It’ll be interesting to see what Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, Rust and Bone) brings to the table, considering he hasn’t directed a comedy in quite some time.

The Sisters Brothers is directed by Jacques Audiard and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly and Riz Ahmed. It will be released in the U.S. on September 21st, 2018 with an as of yet unknown U.K. release date. For international release dates click here.
