Darkness falls for good in Silent Night, the feature debut of writer/director Camille Griffin.
The large gathering at Nell and Simon’s home may seem like an average holiday affair, but a strange twist lies behind the usual festivities. In this parallel universe, an environmental disaster has led to a cloud of toxic gas that’s moving steadily towards them. With their deaths scheduled for later that night, this is partially a going-away party, and with their last moments staring them down, things are sure to get wild.
The alarming premise is being mined for awkward comedy, an approach that will certainly prove hard for Griffin to pull off. With no other features under her belt it’s impossible to know how she will take it on, but having the guts to take this big a swing in your first go-around is a good sign in my book.
Helping her out is a seasoned team in front of the camera, with Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode staring as the couple throwing the party. Their son is played by Jojo Rabbit’s Roman Griffin Davis, while other party guests include Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
So, if you aren’t in the mood for a cheery holiday movie, maybe try out this apocalyptic romp.
Silent Night is directed by Camille Griffin and stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, and Roman Griffin Davis. It will be released in the US and the UK on December 3rd, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
