A woman finds much more than healing in the woods in She Will, the feature debut of co-writer and director Charlotte Colbert.

Veronica needed some quiet time after having surgery, so she moved herself and her nurse, Desi, to a rural estate in Scotland. Instead of finding peace, though, they find that the land holds old and powerful secrets that bleed into their lives and gives Veronica strange powers. The horrifying question is, how will she use these powers after all she’s endured?

Per reports from its festival run, the film spends more time delving into the moody than the truly horrifying, and there’s a bit of comedy mixed in as well. That’s a lot for Colbert to balance in her first feature, but with several acclaimed shorts under her belt, hopefully, she’ll pull off the tricky mix.

She’s got an old pro to lean on in front of the camera in Alice Krige, who as Veronica will carry much of the film. She is more than capable of finding the emotional and thematic ties to keep such a story together, and with support from co-stars like Malcolm McDowell, Rupert Everett, and Kota Eberhardt, the whole thing should come together smoothly.

She Will is directed by Charlotte Colbert and stars Alice Krige, Malcolm McDowell, and Kota Eberhardt. It will be released in the US on July 15th. Further release dates are not currently known.
