If you’re like me, you are on the hunt for a great summer television series. HBO is known for creating dramatic, edgy entertainment, and with their newest series, Sharp Objects, it might just be what you’re looking for.
The trailer for the newest Gillian Flynn adaptation is here and it’s dark, disturbing and mysterious; everything you’d expect from the best-selling author. This HBO limited series features an impressive lineup of collaborators, with creator Marti Noxon (who co-writes with Flynn) whose previous beloved projects include Mad Men and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Jean-Marc Vallée directs, coming off another impressive female led series that was adapted for HBO’s Big Little Lies.
Amy Adams plays the tortured journalist, Camille Preaker, who is drawn back to her hometown of Wind Gap Missouri, to investigate a horrendous murder. Patricia Clarkson plays the matriarch of her dysfunctional family, Adora, and Eliza Scanlen is her other daughter, Amma. Chris Messina stars as local detective Richard Willis, and Elizabeth Perkins rounds out the stellar cast.
Fans of the novel know that this is a story that is psychologically tormenting, but the trailer alone isn’t giving away too much.
Good news: you won’t have to wait long to start uncovering the secrets of Wind Gap. The eight-episode series directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and starring Amy Adams premieres on HBO July 8th in the US and July 9th in the UK. Check it out:
