We are highlighting crowdfunding campaign picks from our friends at Seed&Spark. This week’s films (and one podcast!) run the gamut from thriller to science-fiction.
FIRST
Keema Mingo’s FIRST is a romantic comedy about those touch and go moments right before a couple has sex for the first time. This female directed story features a Black couple at its core and a majority female crew. FIRST’s female lead will be a voluptuous actress and the romance central to the story will be humorous and trauma-free.

The Life Force
The Life Force, from director duo Fanny Veliz Grande and Eric Marinho, is a feature film for and by the Latinx community, and explores themes of Latino representation and spirituality. Gina is lured into a cult devoted to observing the seven deadly sins. She embarks on a spiritual journey against her will. Along the way, she uncovers the truth about her destiny in an exploration into the afterlife.

Our Small Majority (Podcast)
Christian Black and Matthew Goriachkovsky’s Our Small Majority is a podcast where the hosts interview diverse and marginalized populations from all around the world to speak on inequality through a variety of lenses. While the topics are social and economic issues that make up the mass majority, the interview subjects are from a small majority, hence the title. The issues at hand are universal, but the detail at which they’re covered is not. Our Small Majority plans on changing that.

Andromeda
A Short Script Award Winner from the IndieX Film Fest, Andromeda combines a teleportation machine, a strong female lead, and moving family drama. Writer-director Jared Deiro notes its story is influenced by “Astronomy, Greek Mythology, Art, my Personal-Being, and the family closest tome.” Andromeda stars Raquel Antonia (Step Up: High Water), Jason Griffith (Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem vs. the Sword of Justice), and Francesca Santoro (Lucifer).

Decrescendo
Alejandra Armijo’s Decrescendo uses a diverse crew to weave a tale of former homicide detective Drako who confesses to a priest about a case from his past that turned his life around for the worse. Armijo plans for a moody modern noir look in browns and yellows influenced by such classics as Chinatown, Snowpiercer, and Zodiac.

Unmatched
Influenced by a touching award acceptance speech, Brennan Zhou’s Unmatched focuses on the kind of love only a family can provide. Unmatched features a crew that’s over 50% women and a 25% racially diverse. Zhou hopes Unmatched will make viewers “think about and reevaluate your relationship with your parents.”
