The Fear (2020) – source: Marcus Farrell

The Fear, a short film by writer-director Marcus Farrell, is a surreal thriller about James Kelvin being haunted by agoraphobia, anxiety, and depression. Starring Nicco Pyrce, Jathan Gilbert, and Irene Georgerian (The Last Fitness Instructor),  The Fear strives to portray a visceral experience of what having a mental illness is like. Farrell points out that mental illness sufferers often feel alone because others “don’t fully understand what the world is like from their eyes.” The Fear plans on letting viewers have a taste of that experience.

MILDLY DIFFERENT

Film Inquiry’s Seed&Spark Campaign Picks Of July 10, 2020
Mildly Different (2020) – source: Anna Czarska

Mildly Different is an edge dramatic short film from autistic writer-director Anna Czarska (The Tattoo, What?!) inspired by her own experiences. Autism in women is all too often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed because the symptoms are different from those in men. Furthermore, more medical studies on autism are performed on men than women, providing a baseline that’s often mired in false equivalency. Utilizing a unique evolving color palette based on the character’s mood, Mildly Different plans on living up to its namesake.
