SEBERG Trailer

Kristen Stewart brings the Breathless star back to the screen in Seberg, because luckily director Benedict Andrews didn’t think to just CGI her.

As famous as Jean Seberg was, this film isn’t concerned with her movie career. Sure, she was an icon of the French New Wave, but more interestingly she was also an activist back home in the States, throwing her weight behind the civil rights movement of the ’60s. As Seberg details, that unfortunately put her in the crosshairs of the FBI, and their continuous pressure has long been blamed for her subsequent breakdown.

The intense focus on Seberg as her world crumbles should suit Andrews, who is predominantly a theater director. His previous film, Una, similarly kept things small, and despite the thriller aspects hinted at in this trailer, this is probably still a psychological piece, which also means that his main actress is key.

That, of course, is Stewart, who’s proved that she’s more than capable of carrying a film and disappearing into a well-known person. Remember, she played Joan Jett in The Runaways, so Seberg should be a cinch. She’s also got plenty of support from her impressive list of co-stars, which includes Zazie Beetz, Anthony Mackie, and Margaret Qualley.

Hopefully this group can do justice to an icon of cinema past.

Seberg is directed by Benedict Andrews and stars Kristen Stewart, Jack O’Connell, and Margaret Qualley. It will be released in the US on December 13th, 2019 and in the UK on January 10th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
