SCORE: A FILM MUSIC DOCUMENTARY Trailer

We’re all film nerds here, so Score: A Film Music Documentary should be an easy pitch. It’s a movie about film scores featuring a raft of composers. You’re in, right?

Elevator pitch aside, Score provides an insider’s glimpse at the tricky and ever-changing world of a film composer. Their work often gets overlooked unless it goes terribly wrong, and yet, a score is featured in nearly every scene of a movie, to the point where the absence of it is meaningful in and of itself. Woe be to those who underestimate a score’s power; you’ll never fully understand film without it.

Score: A Film Music Documentary lands some huge industry names to break down the history and methodology of their work, including Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, and Rachel Portman. The influence of John Williams and Thomas Newman is discussed, and composers with all sorts of different backgrounds and specialties are featured. No Mica Levi (I know she’s got a ton of fans out there), but one can’t have everything, and Score does deliver an overwhelming number of composers that have moved and shook the industry.

So buckle up for a geek out with Score, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll find some new pieces to obsess over.

Score: A Film Music Documentary is directed by Matt Schrader. It will be released in the U.S. and Canada on June 16th, 2017. Further release dates are not currently known.
