SAINT MAUD Trailer

There’s such a thing as caring too much, but it looks like no one ever explained that to the main character in Saint Maud.

Maud is a little out there. She’s uptight, awkward, extremely devoted, and definitely not a saint, but she genuinely cares for her patient, an ailing woman who bestows Maud the holy moniker. Not that the woman really believes in such things. She’s more a devotee of the flesh, committed to having fun with whatever time she has left. This leaves Maud conflicted. How far do her responsibilities go? Is it just to care for the body or the soul, too?

The psychological thriller is the feature debut of writer/director Rose Glass, the genre filmmaker currently pegged by American distributor A24 as the next big thing. The backing of the highly successful company has launched the likes of Ari Aster and Robert Eggers, and with several successful shorts and a critically lauded festival run for this feature, Glass seems like a name to make note of.

And yeah, that’s the great Jennifer Ehle as Maud’s patient, which should provide a steady presence in front of the camera. Headlining the film, though, is Morfydd Clark, who’s been bouncing around TV and movies for years in small parts. This could be her breakout alongside Glass, if only the film lives up to the hype.

Saint Maud is directed by Rose Glass and stars Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle. It will be released in the US on March 27th, 2020 and in the UK on May 1st, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
