Mother might not know best in Run, the latest from director and co-writer Aneesh Chaganty.

Chloe has always needed help. Being born with several medical conditions made it a necessity, and her mother always stepped up to the plate. Now that she’s a teenager, though, she’s looking to exert a bit of independence, something her mother isn’t exactly keen on. At first their squabble plays out like any parent/teenager clash, but then Chloe discovers something that makes their situation anything but normal.

This familial thriller is right up Chaganty’s alley, as his previous film, Searching, similarly focused on a parent and teen’s relationship unraveling under the most trying of circumstances. That one became an unexpected success, making Run a key indicator for whether Chaganty will be a one-hit wonder or a sustained presence in Hollywood.

He’s certainly got a name to sell Run with, as everybody’s favorite Sarah Paulson stars as the potentially devious mother. After however many seasons of American Horror Story, we all know she can be menacing and sweet simultaneously, making her a perfect fit for the role. She’s paired here with Kiera Allen as the daughter, a relative newcomer with only one other credit to her name. Considering this looks like a two-hander, Allen will need to be on top of her game to keep up with Paulson, but if she is, this could be another big hit for Chaganty.

Run is directed by Aneesh Chaganty and stars Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen. It will be released in the US on May 8th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
